A lot of the time, we think of games as fiction and fantasy, something to help us escape the real world. This week, we’ll explore games that are based on actual events using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade.

Why Make Games About the Real World?

Games that tell true stories are important for a few reasons. They can teach us things in a fun way, help us understand other people’s feelings, and even let us see the world from different points of view. Imagine stepping into the shoes of an explorer discovering new lands or making decisions that change the course of history!

Creating Characters and Scenes

With sprites and backgrounds, you can design characters that look like real historical figures or create settings that match real places from the past. This makes your game feel like a time machine!

Building Your World with Tilemaps

Tilemaps let you create all sorts of places, like ancient cities, wild jungles, or even your own neighborhood. If your game is about a famous battle, you can replicate the battlefield from history books.

Making Choices Matter

Games can have logic and events, which means you can decide what happens when players make certain choices. This is perfect for showing how big decisions can lead to different endings in real-life stories.

Being Respectful and Thoughtful

When making games about real events, especially serious ones, it’s important to be respectful and careful. We want to make sure we’re telling these stories in a way that honors the people and places involved. It’s always a good idea to learn as much as you can on your topic, and even talk to someone who has personal experience in that area.

Wrapping It Up

Making a game about a real-life event is a fantastic way to learn, have fun, and share incredible stories from our past and present. With MakeCode Arcade, you have everything you need to bring these stories to life on your own. Whether you’re recreating a famous moment in history or exploring today’s world, your game can help others see things in new and exciting ways.

What true story will you honor?
